Keswick Adventures’ Round-Up of the Year 2023

We're looking back at another incredible year at Keswick Adventures, with all our highlights from 2023.

New venue

After a search lasting a couple of years, and lots of planning, in October we finally moved into our brand new venue at the The Pencil Factory in the centre of Keswick.

We'd been at our previous venue, just outside of town, for years, but as we were welcoming more amazing adventurers, it was clear that we were quickly outgrowing the space. So it was incredible when we finally found the perfect location where we can not only welcome guests, but can store more equipment, offer better parking facilities, and even run our new indoor activities!

New indoor activities

With a new venue came some brand new activities.

We know how much you love our outdoor adventures, but we also know that sometimes it's too hot, too wet, or too cold to be outside. Keswick, as brilliant is it is, doesn't have loads of active indoor options and we wanted to change that. So this year we opened bookings for our new indoor activities. We've tested them out with our team, friends and family, and we'll be welcoming our first adventurers in 2024 with archery tag, axe throwing and target archery. Why not book our Battle Archery open night in January?

The Witcher

Our sister company, UNIT 7 Safety has been busy on film and TV sets throughout this year, and it was exciting to see some of our previous work back on the big and small screens. Most notably was the third season of The Witcher. This is the second season we've been involved in for the Netflix series, looking after the safety of cast and crew in locations in the North of England.

Helen Skelton and Dan Walker

Onto reality TV now, and we had a banger of a time with local lass Helen Skelton and Dan Walker as they travelled along the North Pennines for Dan and Helen's Pennine Adventure on Channel 5. We took the TV presenters hydrospeeding as part of their journey. They were a lot of fun and up for everything we threw at them.

Training our team

Keswick Adventures team training for canyoning

Amongst all the fun, we always say that safety is our top priority, and we mean it. Our team is fully trained and has lots of experience, but we're always refreshing and updating our knowledge. Not only do we run training ourselves as part of UNIT 7 Safety, we participate, too. This year was no different, with us completing a number of training days throughout the year. As we say: "train hard, play easy"!

Your top adventures of 2023

This year has been another full-on year and we've welcomed over 3,000 adventurers since January, including birthday groups, corporate adventurers, stag dos, hen dos, charity challenges and wellbeing weekenders.

From the nervous who overcame their fears, to the unafraid who dove right in, it's been a riot taking you all out in the Lake District. We've travelled from Keswick in the north to Coniston in the South, and from Cumbria to Northumbria for all sorts of adventures.

As always, ghyll scrambling has been our most popular activity, with over half of all bookers opting for this experience. You also loved canyoning and paddle boarding, which took the second and third spots.

Customer feedback

And it wasn't just us who enjoyed ourselves. Your feedback has been incredible and we're currently rated 5 out of 5 on Tripadvisor from over 800 people! A huge thank you to every single person who leaves a positive review and shares an experience. Your feedback helps our small business grow and we couldn't be more grateful.

Here's just a small selection of what you had to say:

Such a great experience, so exhilarating. Would definitely do it all over again. The wetsuits were excellent, didn't feel the cold of the water at all. Our guide Jay was brilliant.

Canoeing in the Lakes? You can't go wrong with Keswick Adventures! Four of us went canoeing on stunning Derwentwater in the Lake District and a had a fantastic time.

Our instructor Lewis was awesome, he was very knowledgeable and his passion for the outdoors really shows. Super friendly, he puts you at ease immediately. He recognised our individual strengths and weaknesses so tailored his instruction appropriately. No matter how experienced you are you always felt looked after.

Kevin

My son had an absolute blast and was well looked after and included (age 17). He would totally recommend it to anyone looking for an exhilarating activity.

Gillian

Highly recommend canyoning experience to anyone thinking of doing it, these are a great company to book with!

Lois

Keswick Adventures, thank you very much. From beginning to end what an amazing experience. The communication from booking excellent, intro to guide and equipment excellent, the scrambling itself excellent. Honestly would recommend this to anyone of all ages.
