If you’re enjoying a romantic trip to Keswick or the Lake District, then you’ll want to plan some fun activities for you and your other half! We’ve put together our top romantic date ideas and days out for couples in Keswick so that you can fully enjoy your getaway together.

Kayak or Paddle Board on Derwentwater

If you’re staying in Keswick, then you absolutely have to visit its lake, Derwentwater. There are loads of activities to enjoy here, but one of our favourite romantic day date ideas is getting onto the water on a kayak or paddle board. It’s easy for everyone to pick up and, after some basic instruction, you can glide along and enjoy the mountain views as you gently paddle your way over this iconic lake.

We provide guided kayak and paddle board trips across Derwentwater and the surrounding rivers. We can even offer bespoke trips and extras such as a bottle of bubbly if you want to make your day extra special!

Walk up Latrigg

If you’re saving the pennies and looking for cheap date ideas in Keswick, then a walk is an amazing way to spend quality time together. Latrigg is a small fell that offers incredible views with minimal effort. Even if you’re not an experienced mountain walker, this is a great easy walk that almost everyone will be able to enjoy.

Watch the Sun Set at Castlerigg Stone Circle

There’s something mysteriously romantic about Castlerigg Stone Circle. The 360-degree views are truly spectacular and its ancient history provides a unique atmosphere. You can walk directly to Castlerigg from Keswick, or hop in the car and park in one of the (limited) spaces opposite. Why not bundle up warm and watch the sun set over the surrounding mountains?

Go on an Alpaca Walk

White alpaca

For quirky activities for couples, Alpacaly Ever After takes the biscuit! This award winning social enterprise invites you to meet their alpacas and llamas, feed them, and head off on a walk nearby. Many of their activities are wheelchair friendly, and every penny made goes into supporting their work rescuing and re-homing these lovely animals. This is a cute date idea that also gives something back!

Treat Yourself to a Spa Day

Pamper it up with an indulgent spa day! Keswick has a few luxury spas nearby including Armathwaite Hall and the Lodore Falls. Experience lake views, an infinity pool, top-quality treatments… This is a great things to do for couples who work hard and are ready to really relax.

Catch a Launch

If you don’t fancy making your own way across the water in a kayak, then why not relax and have someone do the hard work for you? The Keswick Launch sails across Derwentwater throughout the year (weather dependent), stopping at numerous jetties around the shore. Use it to enjoy a full cruise, or hop on and off as you please to explore other areas of the lake by foot.

Eat out at a Nice Restaurant

Keswick is jam packed full of great restaurants where you can have a tasty meal. Check out our pick of 10 amazing restaurants in Keswick where couples can enjoy a romantic meal.

Catch a Film or a Show

Whatever your cultural leanings, there’s something for you to do in the evening at either at the Alhambra Cinema or the Theatre by the Lake. The Alhambra is an amazing Art Deco family run cinema that shows modern blockbusters alongside local films and more obscure but interesting titles. The theatre, right on the shores of Derwentwater, offers up a varied programme of performances throughout the year.

Take a Brewery Tour

Did you know that Keswick has its very own brewery? The Keswick Brewing Co is a small craft brewery that believes in upholding quality and environmental standards. They offer tours where you can see the magic that goes into making such popular brews as Keswick Gold bitter and Thirst Quencher pale ale. Then pop next door to the Fox Tap, where you can enjoy the freshest pints, and to their gift shop to pick up a memento.

Wander Along the Lakeshore

It’s a relatively easy walk around the whole of Derwentwater if you enjoy long walks. Or, you can simply potter around the shore near Keswick, or wander as far as you like before catching a Keswick Launch back to town. A romantic walk around any part of the lake is just wonderful, with woodland, marshland, waterfalls, open fields, and wildlife to be seen.

Have a Game of Crazy Golf

Competitive couples will enjoy a round or two of crazy golf in Hope Park. In fact, if you love this kind of quaint old-fashioned fun, then the park is a great place for it. You’ll also find remote controlled boats, a pitch-and-putt, and Petanque!

Experience an Extreme Adventure

On top of the Via Ferrata in the Lake District

If, as a couple, you’re less into the romantic and more into the adventurous, then an outdoor adventure could be the thing for you. Head to nearby Honister Slate Mine for an experience like none other on the Via Ferrata Xtreme. Make your way across the side of a steep mountain, scaling clear cliffs and overcoming dizzying heights!

Stargaze at Friar’s Crag

Round up your couple’s day out with an hour watching the stars. The Lake District’s lack of built up areas means that its dark skies are a delight. From Keswick, it’s easy to walk to Friar’s Crag, where you can sit on a bench and watch the stars twinkle over Derwentwater and Borrowdale. Don’t forget your torch as there are no electric lights along here, and remember to wrap up warm and cuddle close!
